A Taste of Scilly from Hell Bay

A Taste of Scilly from Hell Bay

September sees a month-long foodie celebration across the islands – from farm tours, demonstrations with local producers, to island-hopping supper safaris, there’s plenty to get your teeth into. Here are five reasons to choose Hell Bay as your Taste of Scilly base…

1. The Crab Shack does lunch

To celebrate Taste of Scilly month we’re keeping our Crab Shack open a little longer this season. Join us for dinner until 12th September or book in for one of our special Crab Shack lunches, taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17th September.

If you’ve not yet tried the Crab Shack, you absolutely must! This rustic converted barn space hosts a feast of the freshest local seafood, straight from our surrounding seas onto your plate. We serve a simple menu of mussels, scallops, and crab, deliciously seasoned. Getting messy is inevitable as you work your way through Portuguese cataplanas of succulent fresh crab.

Booking essential – call us on 01720 422947.

2. Welcoming Truro School of Cookery

We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Truro School of Cookery for some foodie masterclasses. Chef AJ Turner will be joining us on the 21st & 22nd September to deliver cooking demonstrations in the Crab Shack.

AJ will use local produce from Island Fish, Hillside & Veronica Farms – all sourced from our tiny island of Bryher – to create a delectable three-course menu, which you’ll then feast upon.

Find full details and book here.

3. Bryher’s Island Produce

Here on Bryher we’re lucky to have a passionate community of independent local producers. Whether you’re looking for tours of a working farm, crab cracking demonstrations, or simply to pick up some island produce to sample or take home, you’ll be wise to base yourself on Bryher.

Break up your island explorations with a picnic of potted local crab, sweet homegrown cherry tomatoes, and the moreish Veronica Farm Fudge (we love the Scillonian Sea Salt flavour!).

4. A pop-up Low Tide party

Surely an entry on any Scilly Bucket List, the Low Tide Event comes round only a couple of times a year. Paddle out between Tresco & Bryher for a pop-up event on the sandbar, with BBQ firepit, seafood paella & lobster burgers, drinks and live music.

Find full info on the Low Tide Event here.

5. Come dine with us

If you’re looking for a taste of Scilly combined with complete R&R, we’re here for you. Aside from our sumptuous suites, inviting bar space and ruggedly rural spot on Bryher’s coastline, our 3 AA Rosette restaurant will fulfil your appetite night after night. Head Chef Richard and his team serve a considered, creative restaurant menu putting the island’s homegrown fare to use wherever possible.

Book in on our dinner, bed and breakfast rate and take supper in our restaurant night after night.

The Hell Bay Foodie Break

Experience the highlights of Taste of Scilly month with our foodie break. Stay for four nights from 21st September, participate in a cookery demonstration with Truro School of Cookery, and enjoy lunch at the Crab Shack.

With all this and more included, find full break details here or contact our team to arrange a booking.
